You’ll cross the river to reach the famous waterfalls of Damajagua, where you can enjoy sliding into the pool beneath one of several beautiful mountain waterfalls. If you’re into sightseeing or soaking up local culture, Amber Cove and Puerto Plata are sure to deliver. Get ready for a Jurassic dive into history at the Amber Museum, or sip your way through the Brugal Rum factory. The historic downtown and main plaza are great places to take a stroll, as is the Malecon— a three-mile long open air boardwalk overlooking the ocean. History buffs can’t miss Fort San Felipe, while nature-lovers can check out Damajagua Falls or the nearby beach towns of Sousa and Cabarete (great for catching some windsurfing and kiteboarding action). To get a bird’s-eye view of all things Amber Cove, head to the Sky Bar.
You can see a list of the charges in the “Price List” section above. Before you visit, there are definitely some things to know about the port that will make your trip go smoother. However, the real attractions for the slightly older kids and the young at heart are the waterslides and the zip line. The big, enclosed, twisting water slides are impossible to miss once you enter the pool area, though their entrance might be tricky to find for some. While drink prices were pretty reasonable around $8 per cocktail, the food was overpriced, with a burger costing ~$17. Almost immediately, it became one of my favorite ports of call in the Caribbean, a short distance from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Port Canaveral.

I recently had a chance to tour Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.
Shops and stalls are plentiful and are a great place to source local souvenirs of your visit to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic. Specialties to hunt for are the local rum, coffee beans, chocolate and cigars. You can ride unlimited times with a day pass which is reasonably priced at around US$ 20 for adults and $10 for children. Cabana rates start from around $310 per day for a Hillside Cabana (max. 8 guests) rising to $1170 for a Grand Cabana on the water suitable for up to 20 people to share. Rental cars will also be available at the pier and the area has implemented English training for taxi drivers and made all the taxis a uniform color, white.
Anyone looking to lounge out under the sun and cool off in the pool can skip the excursions in Amber Cove. When you first arrive at the port and walk through the duty-free shop, a cobblestone path to the right takes you to a resort-style pool, bar, and activity area. Once the ship docks at the Amber Cove Cruise Center, it’s only a five-minute leisurely walk into all the hustle and bustle of the shopping, restaurants, pools, and activities. Some of the major cruise lines that sail to the Dominican Republic include Carnival, Princess, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) and Holland America Line (HAL). Prices per person depend on several factors, such as the length of your trip, the month you travel in and each line's included perks.
It’s not much — just a hoop and a half-court area, but it’s a fun option if you want to do something other than lounge by the pool. As you get off the ship, take a left and then head to the end of the port area. At the far corner of the port is a perfect spot to get a picture in front of your ship. For no particular reason, I felt apprehensive about relying completely on a free-access resort-like area for my plans, even though I was looking for a low-key day to spend relaxing in the sun. It was ultimately budgetary reasons that pushed me to give the port a try and skip any excursions. However, there’s also an option once in port to purchase access to the VIP area around the pool for $125 without having to book a cabana, though it’s not indicated whether that’s per person or per family.
A limited number of wheelchairs are available for use on a first-come, first-served basis for no fee from the National Park Service. An identification card with a photo is needed to obtain one while visiting the island. Park staff are available to assist visitors at the information desk. There are no wheelchairs at the departure locations or onboard the vessels.
DO I NEED A RESERVATION TO VISIT THE PARK?
Plan a stop at the American Family Immigration History Center, located on the first floor. Here you can explore the Ellis Island Database, a treasure-trove of 65 million passenger arrival records. Make the most of this experience by completing a Family History Research Prep Sheet. Sales for other attractions may be misleading, sending people to ferries that only sail around the Hudson River, never reaching the actual monuments. In some cases, the experience begins and ends with a bus ride from Manhattan to New Jersey, adding hours to the failed adventure.

ARE FOOD AND SOUVENIRS AVAILABLE FOR SALE ON THE FERRIES?
Refunds will be provided if cancellations of reservations are made 24 hours prior to departure for a Reserve Ticket. Refunds will also be provided if the islands are closed for security, safety or weather reasons. A General Admission Ticket is purchased for specific entry time into security facility. By making advanced reservations, you can avoid waiting in unnecessary lines. Please keep in mind that you will be on your feet for much of your visit and that you will be traveling by boat. Boats, by their nature, move with the water, particularly when affected by waves from passing vessels.
All minors (17 and under) must be accompanied by a responsible adult 25 years old or older. If they arrive without an adult, they may be denied entry into the park. Visitors to Ellis Island are given a unique view of American history.
The National Park Service strongly recommends making advanced ticket reservations. Reservations secured far enough in advance allow visitors to select their desired level of access, eliminating the need to wait in line to purchase tickets. There are many aggressive, unauthorized ticket sellers who will try to sell tickets to the Statue of Liberty near Battery Park in NYC. These individuals will often try to scam people through misrepresentation and over-charging. The only on-site location to purchase authorized tickets is the Statue City Cruises official ticket office inside Castle Clinton in The Battery. Plan ahead if possible, and avoid these scammers selling overpriced and/or fake tickets.
Lockers are located prior to entering the Statue of Liberty to all guests that have the Pedestal Reserve ticket option. Statue City Cruises is the ONLY vendor authorized to provide tickets and transportation to Liberty and Ellis Islands. No other ferry company can give you access to the Islands, monuments, and museums. Additional tickets are not needed to enter the Statue of Liberty Museum or Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.
Fees & Passes
Boat decks also can sometimes be wet and, of course, you will have to walk along a gangplank to board and to disembark from the boat. Statue City Cruises especially recommends against wearing open-toe footwear and flip-flops for safety reasons. Before accessing the Pedestal of the Statue, all visitors with backpacks, food, and drinks must place these items in lockers.
The National Park Service does not charge an Entrance Fee to Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island. Purchase of tickets is required for ferry transportation to the islands. Ferry schedules change seasonally and during periods of high tourism. Up-to-date schedules are posted on the Statue City Cruises website. To guarantee entry, purchasing tickets in advance is recommended.

In the Spring/Summer we suggest you dress in clothing that is comfortable and practical for the weather. During severe hot weather drinking, plenty of water will prevent heat exhaustion. Evelyn Hill Inc. is the food concessionaire located on Liberty Island and Ellis Island offering a variety of high-quality food, with an emphasis on organic ingredients and many heart-healthy options. You may bring children up to three years of age and they do not need a ticket to board the ferry.

Yes, you are allowed to bring your food and beverage for lunch it must be sealed to enter the screening facility (coolers are not allowed). Pedestal Reserve ticket holders should be aware that food or beverages will not be allowed in the screening facility on Liberty Island. All visitors must pass through airport-style security before boarding ferries at Liberty State Park or Battery Park. The ticket will have the time to enter the embarkation site security facility printed on the face. Alcohol is not allowed onboard our ferries and is not allowed in the screening facility. Purchasing Tickets prior to your arrival is recommended, but we also have tickets available for same-day sales.
